Temperature Taking exercise

We had our first Temperature Taking Exercise in Park View. All Primary One children were given new thermometers. I labelled the thermometers and help the children to keep in a safe place.
It was a success during temperature taking exercise. Everyone was able to follow my instruction. It was not chaotic, but very systematic. We took the temperature at the same timing. Then the children had to record their reading onto their school diary book. After that, they washed their thermometer, dried it with tissue paper, before keeping it into the case. Some children asked if they could keep the thermometers. I rejected their request. The thermometers would be returned to them at the end of the year, just in case we might need it for the next temperature taking exercise.

What is the Secret Code?

We had a group work on Addition. The children were detectives. They were asked to find the secret code of the addition worksheets. It was an exciting group work and the children had fun. I also gave points to the most co-operative group. After each group work, I would display their worksheets by clipping onto their respective 'group hangers'. The children were allowed to flip through all the group work activities that they had done, whenever they had completed their classwork.

新年快乐,万事如意!

It was the first time the children had their Chinese New Year celebration in Park View. I gave each Chinese pupils a New Year card. Everyone also received fortune cookies and orange gummy candies from me. I allowed them to eat one of their fortune cookie in class. It was fun to see how they cracked their cookies. Some were so impatient that they bit the cookie without cracking! Some were so caution that they bit a small hole and tried to pull out the paper without 'destroying' the cookie. Haha..... In the end, I demonstrated to them, so that they were able to crack the other two cookies correctly. We had also had a photo taking session. I was the photographer, taking their photos at the 'Let's Celebrate!' corner. You may download more photos from the blog's photo website.

Total Defence Day

We celebrated Total Defence Day on yesterday. The objective of celebrating Total Defence Day is to allow pupils to know what the five aspects of Total Defence are--Psychological Defence, Social Defence, Economic Defence, Civil Defence and Military Defence
The pupils should also be aware that even at their age, their participation in Total Defence is important. The message is that everyone can play a part in defending the country. On this special day, the canteen did not sell the children's favourite food. Instead, the stalls were selling food like sweet potato, plain bread, plain porridge, plain water, etc. The water supply was also cut off during recess time. A bucket of water was placed outside the toilet for the children to scoop and use. The purpose was to remind the children of the sufferings endured by our fore fathers during the Japanese Occupation. The little ones enjoyed eating the plain porridge. 'Yummy!" was the first thing they said when they saw me in the canteen. Some were even asked whether they could eat the plain porridge and sweet potato everyday! Hahaha......

Our First Visit to the School Library

The pupils had their first visit to our school library last Tuesday. Before I allowed them into the library, I told them some basic library rules. I introduced our school librarian, Mdm Aisha to the children. Then they had a quick tour around the library. I also taught them how to choose the appropriate book that is suitable for their level. Every child was allowed to borrow four storybooks. Mdm Aisha was very helpful to prepare temporary ‘library cards’ for the children, so that they could borrow books on that day. The children looked forward to the next visit to the library!

I set up a "Let's Celebrate" Corner. We shall be celebrating festivals such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Deepavali and even Mid-Autumn Festival at this special corner. There will be mini birthday celebrations too! The birthday boys and girls of the month have a chance to take photographs at "Let's Celebrate" Corner!
